Shua

The strength and cardio equipment of gym floors: selectorised machines, free weights, racks and cardio machines for continuous use.

Professional equipment is not reinforced domestic equipment

A gym floor runs twelve hours a day, seven days a week, with users who spare nothing because it is not theirs. The bearings, cables, upholstery and finishes of professional strength equipment are sized for that, and for scheduled servicing - it is the only difference that counts, and it does not show in a showroom.

Shua makes this strength and cardio equipment, and it is what we supply and install on most gym floors. We say plainly what a fleet consumes in wear parts over five years: it is a budget line projects systematically forget, and it is discovered at the first cable to be changed.

A gym floor has three zones with distinct needs. Free weights, which need the thickest floor, the anchors and the height. Selectorised machines, denser and less demanding on the floor but hungry for circulation. Cardio, placed according to ventilation, power points and views - nobody wants to run facing a wall, and the power supply is dealt with on the drawing, not after installation.

Layout is judged on circulation as much as on the machines. A dense floor looks profitable on a drawing and becomes unbearable in use: you need the width between two rows, the clearance behind a rack to step back, the real room to load and unload a bar without getting in the way of the next station. We draw those clearances before placing the equipment, not the other way round.

The order of assembly is not up for discussion: floors first, then anchors, then the heavy machines, mirrors and finishes last. Swapping two stages is expensive - a mirror fitted before the machines arrive gets scratched. See fitness and cross-training, installation and delivery.

The range

What we install

Selectorised machines

Selectorised machines

The densest part of the floor, and the part beginners use. The adjustment has to be obvious without instructions: a machine whose adjustment is not understood is a machine nobody uses.

Cables and bearings are the wear parts, and they are replaced on site. We state the five-year consumption at quotation stage.

Free weights and racks

Free weights and racks

Racks, bars, plates and benches. This is the zone that governs the floor, the anchors and the headroom, and the one that cannot be moved afterwards.

The clearance behind a rack to step back, and the room to load a bar without obstructing the next user, are drawn before anything is placed.

Cardio

Cardio

Treadmills, rowers, bikes and cross-trainers. Their position is decided by ventilation, power points and views, not by whatever floor area is left.

The power supply is dealt with on the drawing. A row of treadmills added later needs sockets that do not exist, and trunking you can see.

Good to know

Frequently asked questions

How many machines for what area?

The question runs the other way: how many members at once at peak hours? That figure decides the density of the floor, and therefore the number of stations.

A floor that is too dense looks profitable on a drawing and drives people away at peak hours, which costs more than the machines saved.

What does maintaining a fleet cost?

Cables, bearings, upholstery: we price the five-year consumption at study stage, by family of equipment.

The schedule of checks and their frequency is on the maintenance page, with a record per machine.

Will my slab take a free-weight area?

It has to be checked before any purchase, and it is often what settles a layout over two levels. A loaded rack and a stack of plates concentrate forces an upper floor does not necessarily carry.

We survey the permissible loading at study stage, see space design.

Equipping or renewing a gym floor?

Tell us the area, the attendance you expect at peak hours and the share of free weights. We will tell you what fits, and what the slab requires.
